About Palawan Baptist Hospital

Providing compassionate care in Northern Palawan.

About Us

Palawan Baptist Hospital, Inc. (PBH) is a non-stock, non-profit, 12-bed infirmary located in Purok Umalad, Barangay 4, Roxas, Palawan—approximately 132 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa City. Positioned in a geographically isolated and disadvantaged area (GIDA), PBH serves as the primary healthcare facility for families across Northern Palawan and its surrounding island communities. For many, PBH is not just a hospital—it is a refuge where physical healing and spiritual care meet.

History

The hospital’s story began in 1977, when missionaries of the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE) opened a small health clinic to meet the urgent medical needs of the community. Just two years later, on July 30, 1979, PBH was officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a mission hospital. In its early years, PBH was fully funded by ABWE and managed by American missionary doctors, who provided free medical, surgical, outpatient, and laboratory services. While patients waited for consultation or during hospital confinement, staff and missionaries shared the Gospel, ensuring that each encounter became an opportunity to point people to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Over the decades, PBH grew into a trusted institution, recognized by the Department of Health and accredited by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. In 2010, stewardship of the hospital was fully entrusted to Filipino administrators, marking a new chapter in its history. This transition affirmed PBH’s commitment to remain a distinctly Filipino institution while carrying forward its strong foundation of Christian medical service.

For almost 50 years, PBH has stood as a beacon of compassion and faith in Northern Palawan. Guided by its enduring core values of integrity, excellence, compassion, and accountability, the hospital has consistently placed patients at the center of its mission. Its story is one of resilience, service, and unwavering devotion—serving not only as a healthcare provider but also as a ministry of healing and hope.

Over the Decades

Looking Forward

Looking ahead, PBH is committed to transforming its operations, expanding its services, and modernizing its facilities to meet the demands of a rapidly changing healthcare landscape. With a vision of becoming a more efficient, patient-focused, and technologically advanced institution, the hospital seeks to optimize resources while continuing to deliver high-quality, Christ-centered care.

In every consultation, every prayer offered, and every life touched, PBH affirms its dual mission: to provide exemplary healthcare and faithful medical evangelism. As it enters its next chapter, the hospital remains steadfast in its calling—to be Christ’s healing hands in Palawan, glorifying God through service, compassion, and transformed lives.

Vision

Palawan Baptist Hospital has been raised up to the Lord as a means of evangelism to reach men and women, boys, and girls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ while under treatment, and that all other functions of the hospital must focus on this primary goal by presenting a positive testimony for Christ, with the medical work of best possible quality so that Christ may be glorified.

Mission

PBH is determined under God to be a spiritually empowered family of servants committed to glorify Him. We will follow the Lord’s command to preach the Gospel throughout northern Palawan, to show Christ’s compassion by providing loving care and quality medical service. We will seek to establish and encourage local Baptist churches in agreement to our doctrinal statement. We are committed to integrity, excellence, compassion, and accountability until our Lord returns.
